Chilean Court Partially Revokes Google’s Data Center Permit, Requires Consideration of Climate Change Effects
A Chilean court today partially revoked Google’s permit to build a data center in the South American country and asked the American company to take into account the effects of climate change in the said case.
Google received approval for a $200 million data center in Santiago in early 2020, but the project has since sparked outrage among residents and local officials over the potential impact on the air of the capital city, Reuters reported.
The court requested the company to consider the effects of climate change when evaluating the water component in Santiago and, if necessary, consider modifying the server cooling system associated with the project.
