Goran Vesić, a member of the Presidency of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), emphasized that our compatriots from Republika Srpska have the right to vote in Serbia according to the law adopted in 2003. That law was enacted long before the existence of the SNS, and the initial idea for the adoption of this law was proposed by the then Serbian Prime Minister, Zoran Djindjic.

Vesić pointed out that he has always strived to increase the number of voters from Republika Srpska to vote in Serbia, believing in the importance of their opinions when it comes to voting for parties that should be the guarantors of the protection of state and national interests of Serbia and all Serbs. He also compared this with the fact that Croatians from Bosnia and Herzegovina vote in elections in Croatia without any issues.

For the opposition parties in Serbia today, according to Vesić, the main issue is not whether citizens of Republika Srpska have the right to vote in Serbia, as the law explicitly states that they do, but rather what these parties should do in order to gain the support and trust of the voters from Republika Srpska. He also mentioned the false reports about 40,000 „imported voters“ and emphasized that there is no factual basis to these claims.

Vesić was adamant that these attempts are aimed at internationalizing the issue and opening a pathway for foreign influence on the situation in Serbia, something that must be prevented. He expressed concerns that certain opposition parties in Serbia were partaking, perhaps unknowingly, in a campaign to abolish Republika Srpska, an action that is being pursued by certain circles in the international community.

He emphasized that Serbia will not allow the democratic capacity to be undermined by the actions of non-system political groups, whose sole purpose is to destabilize the country. Vesić also stated that, despite the clear messages from Serbia’s largest Western ally expressing satisfaction with the reform processes in Serbia and the cooperation with the future government of the Republic of Serbia, opposition parties continue to engage in campaigns against the citizens of Republika Srpska.

In conclusion, Vesić highlighted that Serbia will not allow its democratic capacity to be undermined by the actions of non-system political groups, and stressed the need for respect towards the democratic processes and the will of the citizens of Serbia.
