Nikola Nikodijević, a member of the Temporary body of the city of Belgrade and president of the City Committee of the SPS, stated tonight that he agrees with the opinion that greater gathering is needed when it comes to the upcoming local elections.

„I am always in favor of national unity. When national interests are threatened, national forces need to come together, and I believe that we will come out even stronger in Belgrade after these elections, with a serious plan and program,“ Nikodijević said on the „Hit tweet“ show on TV Pink.

He added that new elections in Belgrade were organized because the coalition gathered around the SNS did not receive support from the group „We – the voice of the people,“ even though they had a majority of 56 councilors to form the city government.

The president of the Serbian party Patriots Milica Djurdevic Stamenkovski said that the upcoming elections in Belgrade are extraordinary in their character, as well as in their consequences for the reputation, status, and overall situation in Serbia.

„It is very important for the people of Belgrade to understand the responsibility they have at this moment. The upcoming elections will decide the future fate of our country, they will not particularly decide on communal matters in Belgrade, they will decide on where Serbia will go next. The president has spoken about the West expecting the Republic of Srpska to renounce recognition of Kosovo and impose sanctions on Russia, and the opposition has announced that they will agree to all of that just to come to power,“ Stamenkovski said.

She said that according to her data, Belgrade constitutes a quarter of the electorate in Serbia and added that it is the center of economic and political events.

„The backbone of Serbia will break in Belgrade, it is a test of our political maturity and that is why I hope that in these elections we vote against the recognition of Kosovo,“ Djurdevic Stamenkovski said.

The head of the list „We – the voice of the people“ for the Belgrade elections, Aleksandar Jerković, said that the new elections in Belgrade will be a referendum.

„It will be national elections with the question – are you for Serbia or against it?“ Jerković said.

He emphasized that he does not understand why a majority was not formed in Belgrade, when there was an ideal opportunity for that after the elections on December 17, when the list „We – the voice of the people“ won 4.6 percent in the republic elections and 5.4 percent in the Belgrade elections.

„When I said on the election night – maybe we will have a mayor, I did not mean myself, I meant Dr. Nestorović. Why was that not used, why was that potential, which we had at that moment, not used, it will never be clear to me,“ Jerković said.

Commenting on claims that foreign countries interfere in the election of mayors and ministers in Serbia to make decisions about appointing these officials, Nikola Nikodijević said that this is only possible in countries that are not independent and sovereign.

„It can only happen in a country that is not sovereign and cannot make decisions independently, and fortunately, Serbia is not like that, it will be like that as long as the SNS and SPS have a majority, I can guarantee you that,“ Nikodijević said.
