Miloš Vučević, the Minister of Defense and President of the Serbian Progressive Party, expressed gratitude to the citizens of Serbia for their support. In a post on Instagram, he wrote, „You are our strength, long live Serbia.“
Earlier in the day, Vučević stated after voting that the elections will determine how we want to see Serbia in the next four years. He expressed optimism that the „Serbia must not stop“ list will win in both the national, provincial, and local elections.
„This is a celebration of democracy, and I believe that we will all govern ourselves accordingly. I expect the elections to take place in a fair and democratic atmosphere, and that all participants will act correctly and support the electoral will of the citizens, because that is the essence of the elections and popular sovereignty,“ he said after voting at the Neighborhood Community of National Heroes in Novi Sad.
This year, Serbia is holding parliamentary elections, as well as local and provincial elections. This is an important moment for the country as it will determine the future direction and leadership of Serbia for the next four years.
The parliamentary elections will take place using a mixed proportional system, where half of the seats will be allocated proportionally, and the other half will be assigned to the party or electoral list that wins the most votes.
Serbians can vote for either a political party or an electoral list of candidates. Each list of candidates needs to have at least 3% of the votes to be included in the distribution of seats.
In addition to the parliamentary elections, local and provincial elections will also take place. These elections will determine the leaders and representatives of local governments and provincial assemblies.
The participation of citizens in these elections is crucial for the functioning of a healthy democracy. It is an opportunity for people to express their voices and opinions and to have a say in the decision-making processes that will affect their lives.
In previous elections, voter turnout in Serbia has been relatively high, indicating a strong engagement of the population in the democratic process.
The government and electoral authorities have also taken measures to ensure the safety of voters amidst the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Precautions such as wearing masks, providing hand sanitizers, and arranging for social distancing have been implemented to minimize the risk of virus spread during the voting process.
Political parties and candidates have been campaigning in various ways, including through public appearances, debates, and the use of social media. Citizens have had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the different political platforms and to make informed decisions about the candidates they wish to support.
Overall, the elections in Serbia this year are seen as a critical moment for the country’s political development. The results will have a significant impact on the future direction of the nation and will reflect the will and aspirations of the Serbian people. All eyes are on the outcome of the elections as Serbia moves forward in its democratic journey.
