Gas prices on the European TTF exchange today rose to 34.9 euros per megawatt-hour, the highest in the last five months.
Austrian energy company OMV recently issued an urgent statement warning that Russian Gazprom could suspend gas deliveries to Austria based on a „foreign court“ ruling on the payment method for gas. If the ruling is implemented, OMV would be forced to stop payments to Gazprom, which would likely lead to a halt in Russian gas supplies to Austria.
Details of the „foreign court“ ruling were not disclosed. OMV stressed that its subsidiary OGMT would still be able to supply customers with gas from alternative, non-Russian sources, and that European markets would not be compromised.
